Both of these work to help in setting up silos easily,. I use the CC Child Pages plugin for building out silos with pages by using parent/child relationships. I can also put a link to the parent in the child pages to spread the power of the links throughout the site. The ultimate posts widget I use for my blog to create relavant content silos. I can keep the posts that are in the category that is being viewed showing and not show the other categories. This will help to keep the category pages on a specific topic when I have more than one focus on my blog.
